About Us

We are a small, auditioned choir of between 20 and 30 members. We recruit singers with previous experience of choral singing with the aim of performing lesser-known chamber music to a high standard. Our members are both students and the wider community with a wide age range.

Auditions take place at the beginning of each academic year for new members of any age (see Membership for more details).  Auditions simply consist of a voice test and a short piece of sight reading, so please don’t be put off by it or feel you have to prepare anything in advance. However, if you would like to bring a piece to sing we would also welcome this if you are more at ease doing so.  Current singers re-audition every 3 years. If you would like to audition during the term, please contact our President Emma Acklam on su-luchamberchoir@le.ac.uk.

The choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings between 7pm and 9pm in the Fraser Noble Hall during University term time.

We typically perform one large concert per term, each based around a theme. Past themes have included Sacred British Music Across the Centuries and The Food of Love, with works based around love and marriage.

The choir’s social life is also very important as we take pride not only in the quality of our performance, but also in our friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Whether it’s a quick pint after a rehearsal or a choir social, this is important to us. There’s more to joining a choir than just grafting away for concerts!
